Cabinet endorses bills for two more public universities

The cabinet on Monday approve drafts of ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University Bill’ and ‘Sunamganj Science and Technology University Bill’ allowing the authorities concerned to establish two more public universities.

The secondary and higher education division placed the two draft bills in the weekly cabinet meeting.With a view to set up a university after the name of the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kishoreganj.and a science and technology university in Sunamganj.

The cabinet are endorse both the draft bills which are similar to the laws of other public universities.Cabinet secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam tell a press briefing after the meeting. He also say that,The number of public universities will be 50 including these two.

Honourable Prime minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the weekly cabinet meeting at her Tejgaon office.The last cabinet meeting approved the drafts of two laws for setting up a science and technology university in Chandpur and an agriculture university in Habiganj.

In this metting the cabinet secretary say that,They also endorsed the draft Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (Amendment) Bill 2019 allowing the commission to change tariffs more than once in a fiscal year.

He also say that,The commission as per the 2003 law was able to revise the tariffs once in a fiscal year. Now the provision has been relaxed. If necessarythe commission would be able to change the tariffs more than once.

The cabinet approved the information and communication technology division’s proposals to set up Bangladesh Data Centre Company Limited and Startup Bangladesh Limited along with their memorandums of association and articles of association for the two entities under Bangladesh Computer Council.

It also endorsed a proposal for ratification of Bangladesh’s accession to Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks 1989.
